Kelly Gallagher shared this image on Twitter the other day, and I thought it would be a great writing prompt for me and for students. So many perspectives from which to write.
Turns out, it was a great final slice.
Advice from a Slice
Find the ordinary.
Capture the small moment.
Look everywhere.
Keep a notebook.
Tell the story.
Write from the heart.
Warn your friends and family.
Silence the critic.
Tame the fear.
Just hit the publish button.
Celebrate.

ReplyDelete"warn your friends and family" - I think that is where I can get stuck in what I want to write. I don't want to hurt anybody.
ReplyDeleteLovely idea and poem. I love "silence the critic" because that inner critic is always there.And I love "Just hit the publish button" because once you do that you're free. You've done it; don't look back. And yes, celebrate!

ReplyDeleteI love this! I have a hanging that is advice from a volcano. I have wanted to do this with my students, as well. I feel that the lines "find the ordinary/capture the small moment" really encapsulates what participating in this challenge helped me to strengthen as a writer.

ReplyDeleteI love your list - Just hit the publish button! Love that one. I told myself I would be writing drafts and yet I found that I would read one more time, revise, read one more time, revise... yet slicing for a month draft or otherwise was great for my writing growth!
