A big thank you to all of those at Two Writing Teachers for creating and supporting this community of writers.
Kelly Gallagher shared this image on Twitter the other day, and I thought it would be a great writing prompt for me and for students. So many perspectives from which to write.
Turns out, it was a great final slice.
Advice from a Slice
Find the ordinary.
Capture the small moment.
Look everywhere.
Keep a notebook.
Tell the story.
Write from the heart.
Warn your friends and family.
Silence the critic.
Tame the fear.
Just hit the publish button.
Celebrate.
YES! Such great advice. I love it.
ReplyDelete"warn your friends and family" - I think that is where I can get stuck in what I want to write. I don't want to hurt anybody.
ReplyDeleteLovely idea and poem. I love "silence the critic" because that inner critic is always there. And I love "Just hit the publish button" because once you do that you're free. You've done it; don't look back. And yes, celebrate!
ReplyDeleteI love this! It's great advice from a slice and so encouraging. My favorite part is that you ended on the celebration. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS, Leigh Anne! That's it.
ReplyDeleteI love your list - Just hit the publish button! Love that one. I told myself I would be writing drafts and yet I found that I would read one more time, revise, read one more time, revise... yet slicing for a month draft or otherwise was great for my writing growth!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Simple words of wisdom. I found myself going back into my notebook so many times during this month. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't been notebooking for a while.
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect. It captures so many good parts of writing. I wish you the best, Leigh Anne! (This is Marilyn Miner. For some reason, I can't comment from my WordPress blog on Blogspot. I guess I'll have to figure that out, someday. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so great! Such sage advice and a perfect wrap up to the month.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! Perfect writing prompt. Loved your "Advice from a Slice"! It was nice to be in a community with you again!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I will be saving this to use later.
ReplyDeleteThis is great advice. Stories are all around us all we need to do is look for them.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely how to slice! I think I should keep a notebook, but I don't always, thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Letters are so powerful and this was a perfect end to the month (and would be great to republish next year at the start).
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! What a perfect way to end (or begin!) the challenge.
