Celebrate Turn #22

Each week Ruth Ayres extends an invitation to share and celebrate events, big or small, from our week.

Today I celebrate new teachers.

I consider myself lucky because I get to relive the excitement felt by new teachers, although vicariously through my daughter.  I have not seen her much this week because she has been working almost everyday, all day, in her new third grade classroom.

But I do get to see that new teacher excitement of...

  • new supplies of crayons, markers, and notebooks
  • bulletin board ideas coming to life
  • libraires reorganized
  • pencil caddies full of pencils, sharpened and ready to go
  • desks arranged and rearranged and rearranged again trying to find the perfect spot
  • empty lesson plan books ready to be filled with wonderful ideas
And I am loving every minute of it!

Yes, Megan is a member of camp give-them-a-pencil!

Today I celebrate new teachers who give me hope that teaching is still a desired and fulfilling profession.

Have a great week and may you find many celebrations along the way!

  1. How exciting for you and very wonderful for your daughter to have you close. She just graduated didn't she? And she already has a job? Wow! So great! Here in Vancouver, it takes many teachers years to finally get a contract. I was lucky years and years ago to have my own classroom within a year but it is almost unheard of now.

  2. I love when a teacher new or experienced takes care in setting up his/her classroom but what a great job your daughter has done with her room. May she have a wonderful year. :-)

  4. I love, love, love the excitement of new teachers! I'm looking forward, then, to teaching at our New Teacher Institute the first week in August, and working with a new teacher in my building. But to have one in your own family, well, that's even better! Enjoy!

  7. I'm always giddy with excitement to see how new teachers begin their year. I read this great advice post for new teachers this week on Facebook! It's great about finding the marigolds. Here is the link!

  8. Leigh Ann, I'm not a teacher but I still can remember as a student the rush that came with the smell of brand new school supplies. How nice to be able to share these times with your daughter.

  9. I have been working all week in my classroom and I have to admit, I love this time. Rearranging, decorating, sorting...I think it's part of a teacher's DNA. And the love of a cup full of pencils!

  10. That classroom organization is a thing I just love. As Margaret said, perhaps it's a thing we all share, we teachers. Thank goodness there more coming along who see teaching as "a desired and fulfilling profession" and people like you to help them along their way.
