My Journey to Bullet Journaling

Thank you Two Writing Teachers for creating this space for me to share my corner of the world.

About the same time I decided on my one little word for 2016, I also came across this phenomena called bullet journaling.  I was intrigued by this idea for several reasons.  I want need to be more organized.  The older I get, the more I forget and I need help to get it together.  I want to keep a notebook where I can keep blog post ideas, quotes, snippets of my life, scripture verses and other things.  All of these things seem to be everywhere except in one place.  Most importantly, I want this year to have more intent.  I want to pay more attention to the things that matter.

All of this fits into a bullet journal.

So what's a bullet journal?

A bullet journal is an organizational system that teaches you to do more with less.

"For the list-makers, the note-takers, the Post-it note pilots, the artful organizers, the dabbling doodlers.  Bullet Journal is for those who feel there are few platforms as powerful as the blank paper page.  It's an analog system for the digital age that will help you organize the present, record the past, and place for the for the future."

My Bullet Journal Beginning

I ordered my bullet journal on January 20th, thinking I would start in February.  The expected delivery date was March 7th...so much for starting in February.

March 7th came and went...with no journal.  I didn't pay attention to the seller when I ordered it on Amazon.  I began doing some research on Amazon and it appeared that I was not the only one who was not receiving their journals on time.  I read complaint after complaint about the same issues I was having.  I finally emailed the seller and told them to cancel my order and refund my money.  So much for starting in March.

Yesterday, I bought a squared Moleskin journal.  It is not what I wanted, but I want to get started with this new type of journaling.  How about starting in April?

When I write in them, I dare.

Dare to create.

To make.

To plan.

They're a creative
playground where you
breathe life into ideas."

  2. I will be following your journey with this. I've been watching and looking a little bit at bullet journaling, but haven't done much serious reading about it. Thanks!

  3. Leigh Anne, funny that you mentioned this type of notetaking. I started a pad with ideas for blog posts, titles of workshops, and tidbits. While I am the queen of scraps of paper here and there, I decided that in my quest to become more organized I would keep a notebook with tabs. Yesterday, at a conference we were all provided with a brand new journal. I will make it my own and start filling the pages. I will also read through the resources you have provided. Thanks again. Last week I liked your PicMonkey Currently I'm idea and this week bullet journaling. In my post (http://beyondliteracylink.blogspot.com/2016/03/this-weeks-bests.html), I credited you for helping me design a new template.

  4. I started bullet journaling this month. I kept reading everything I could find and even started a Pinterest board with ideas. I love that everything is in one spot. (although I still keep my writer's notebook handy)

  6. I've been using a bullet journal for about a year and I love it. It keeps me organized, everything is in one place, and I love a daily to-do list. Like Michelle, I also learned from reading Kate Messner's blog. Good luck!

  9. I am also interested in bullet journaling! I am a writer's notebook type, but "notebook" means four or 5 notebooks. I tried the Passion Planner, which I LOVE, but I'm still pretty awful about actually writing down. Maybe if I bullet journal I'll like it better...

  12. I'm so intrigued by the idea of bullet journaling (which is something that's completely new to me). Sounds like something we might want to share with our readers on TWT once you figure it out. Perhaps you'd like to do a guest blog post at some point this fall... Email me if you're interested.

  13. Bullet Journaling - I've tried it but alas my mind isn't that organized, nor am I that disciplined. I hope it brings you the organization that you want.

  17. I've been waiting to take the plunge to try bullet journaling. I've been reading blog after blog and looking them up on pinterest like crazy. I just can't seem to get started. I'd like to incorporate my planner into it, to keep it all in one place. Please keep us posted on your journey! I might have to join you or for sure follow you!

  19. I plunged recklessly in with a second hand spiral notebook (student joined class, student left class, notebook remained) and my own categories. The main thing I'm doing is making a table of contents so I can find my various lists. I'm really liking it for that!
