Now

Thank you Two Writing Teachers for creating this space for me to share my corner of the world.

I started my spring break with a shopping trip with my daughter Megan.  We spent a lot of time at Barnes and Noble, yet I only came home with two books.  After I added them to my TBR stack, pile, shelf...or whatever else you want to call it, I realized this would be a perfect day to try some book spine poetry.

After pulling and shifting, and shifting and pulling, I found one.  I think it is a message that I sometimes need to hear on a daily basis.

all the bright places
finding serendipity
all we have is now

Sometimes I think we get so wrapped up in finding those brighter places that we tend to forget that all we really have is the now.  Today.

Make it a great one!

Bloggers note:  I intended for this to be a haiku.  I thought it was until I typed the titles and realized the first line actually had 6 syllables.  Darn!

  1. Pulling and shifting is a lot of work, but that's what it takes to find just the right way that words go together to speak to us. I love your ideas! So true.

  4. Nice! On a related note, I just loved All the Bright Places and was able to put it into the hands of a student who loved it just as much.

  5. One of my favorite slices is trying out book spine poetry. I also loved All the Bright Places, in fact I put some of Finch's words in my header on my blog. Nice job with the spine poetry.

  10. Hooray! Book spine poetry! This one has a great message. I often wish for the past to still be present...but the present is what I have, and it offers bright places, too.(Doesn't need to be haiku.) I will be on break once the bell rings on Friday, maybe I will be heading to the bookstore to play with books, too.

  12. I love the explanation that you give to your fabulous book spine poem. We often forget to enjoy what the moment brings.

  13. How cool! I would have never thought of doing this. I often think that book covers are a work of art!

  14. This is so fun! I have never done this, however you have inspired me to do. I agree that we all really need to stop to enjoy the 'now' instead of looking forward or thinking about the past.

  15. Book spine poetry is harder than it looks. This message is a good one. On a side note, I loved All the Bright Places, but it is very sad.
