Celebrate Good Times, Come On! - 2/1

Each Saturday  Ruth Ayres invites us to share and celebrate events from our week. Looking for small celebrations has certainly improved my outlook on my week. For that, I am certainly grateful to Ruth and to all of you who choose to celebrate with us.

Wow, it is hard to believe that February is here!  That itself is a celebration because we are one month closer to spring!

Another week of starts and stops with snow/cold days, but still much to celebrate!

One - Of course it is the week to celebrate books.  I watched the ALA Youth Media Awards for the first time and it was so much fun sharing this experience with my "inaugural" Mock Newbery Club. We had been coming in on Monday mornings for books and breakfast and celebrated Monday by watching the awards together.  I have learned many things about how to improve this for 2014.  The best part - my kids from this year want to continue.  I hope this is the start of something big!

Two - Here is a stack books I received from Scholastic this week.  No need to say more!

Three - We started a persuasive unit this week and I love how it is flowing.   I have included many new lessons to the unit which has added much conversation and collaboration.  We start writing next week so hopefully I will have even more to celebrate!

Have a great week and may you be blessed with many celebrations!

  2. Now it would be a good time for a break to start, to read, read, read. Then again, you wouldn't want to miss the conversation and collaboration happening in your classroom. Happy reading and writing!

  3. Thank you for sharing your lovely classroom and reading life. The small but mighty group of readers, crock pots full of food, the stack of books (I have some of those books in my stack) and your collaborative writers. All great celebrations. Enjoy the weekend. Hope you get some reading in.

  4. I think your small (but mighty) group will grow into something bigger. Kudos to the kids for being a part of this group. Lovely set of books to read, now all that's missing is the time. Can't wait to read how the persuasive unit goes.

  5. I was telling one of our teachers about these Newberry book clubs that I had red about on your blog (and others as well). She was interested! I might just share your post with her! Happy reading to you and your students!

  8. Your group looks about the same age as mine, Leigh Anne-it was a delight, wasn't it? And we're going to continue to meet and talk about books, looking for the next winner! Glad you had a nice week. Which one of your fabulous stack will be first! I see Jone has given her pick; mine is The Real Boy (I really love Anne Ursu). Have a great time watching "the" game!

  9. Your week looks perfect...books and food, writing, and celebrating. As I've read about some of the "Mock Newbery" groups, it makes me think about starting one for next year. I'll have to pick your brain. Like Linda, I LOVED The Real Boy. It's on my Kindle and I need to get a hard copy for my students. Hold Fast and Tangle of Knots are also favorites. Doll Bones is waiting for me at the library. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. :) Have a great week!

  13. I got a nice stack of free books from Scholastic too! Just finished "My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish" by Mo O'Hara that I got from them. Now on to "Three Tines Lucky" since all my kids are "fighting" for the book from the library!
