Song of the Daffodils #PoetryFriday

With April just around the corner, I have been trying to get my poetry muscles in shape...again! This week I am participating in the Poetry Friday Round-up to get a jump start.  Tabatha at The Opposite of Indifference has the round-up this week. T

I have been writing in my notebook with my students this week before we "go live" with e-learning next week. I have given them a prompt/spark/idea to write about each day. One of those was "tell me about green."

I wrote a Tanka poem - not really about green, but I think it will work.

Song of the Daffodils

a fall-planted bulb
buried just beneath the snow
welcome mat unrolled
with your golden corona
trumpeting spring's arrival

  1. Totally unexpected word popped up there, requiring a little google to confirm that it is what I deduced. That's the loveliest use of corona I have seen! Lovely tanka. Nice job! (Please delete, if you get two comments from me. Blogger does not like me commenting these days.)

  2. Thinking ahead in fall paid off! Love that ending.
My parents' house has hundreds of daffodils around it. It must be amazing right about now :-)

  3. The forethought in fall becoming the welcome mat in spring and that trumpet! Nice poetry flex. Keep us posted on how your students do in e-learning.

  4. Lovely! Love your poem, love your prompt for kids. I may have to use that today. I am curious what your other notebook prompts were this week and how you communicated them to your students.

  8. Lovely! I like that golden corona. And I miss my daffodils. I tried digging some up to take with us when we moved, but it was the wrong time of year and none survived.

  10. Trumpeting springs arrival is just right. Did you know that my prompt on Laura Shovan's blog today is a tanka? You should try that one, too. I love the form!

  16. Wow! The word "corona" startled me! But I love that you're teaching the kids that the word means more than an ugly virus. I love "welcome mat unrolled."
